Asilo San Vicente

Through the Carmelite Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Los Angeles who ran the elementary school at Holy Family, Wilmington, Ca., Saint Mary's Foundation is now closely connected to Asilo San Vicente, Atotonilco el Alto, near Guadalajara.

Since 1904 the Carmelite Sisters of the Sacred Heart have operated a home for the needy elderly and a small hospital. In 2007 Saint Mary's Foundation replaced the antiquated anesthesia equipment in the hospital, Sagrado Corazon. Adjacent to the hospital was the home for the elderly. It was badly in need of repair and no longer judged a safe facility. With government help, the Sisters had purchased land nearby and had made plans to build a new home. Saint Mary's Foundation donated the physical rehabilitation center and equipment for the new Asilo San Vicente. At a special event in 2009 the rehabilitation center was dedicated to Saint Mary.

Basic medications purchased for the Asilo as requested by the Sister Administrator. Saint Mary's Foundation and the Carmelite Sisters of the Sacred Heart in Atotonilco el Alto are closely joined in projects to help the poor and elderly.

A community of sisters, Missionaries of the Resurrected Jesus, look after children found homeless on the streets of Guadalajara. Many of the children are mentally and/or physically challenged. Age ranges from five to fifteen years. They are saved from exploitation and abuse, including human trafficking. Currently 43 young boys and 9 girls are nurtured by three Sisters and a small staff. The compound needed a protective wall. Saint Mary's Foundation built it. There was no playground equipment or clothes washing machines and there was a shortage of beds. Saint Mary's Foundation has provided them. These children now get presents at Christmas and pray every day for Saint Mary's Foundation and all the people who support it. Medications will be purchased from Guadalajara as requested by the Sisters.

Saint Mary's Foundation plans to make regular purchases of food for this orphanage.
